Free Write for October 21st

Where would you prefer to be right now--mountains, desert, beach--and why?

I like hot weather, but I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t want to stuck in  the desert right now. Living in British Columbia makes me pretty used to being in and right beside the mountains. I’ve never been anywhere tropical before, so I think that if I could just be transported to anywhere right now I would definitely choose somewhere hot and tropical with beautiful water, and smooth sand. The beach is the place to go?

Video of the Week

I chose this video because it’s a current event, and it shows what is going on in the world right now. It’s important to keep up with what is happening in other parts of the world, and I think that is relevant to other stories about being in your own world and not caring about other things, which is why we should keep up with watching the news and learning about problems that go on around us.

Proverb

"To the fish the water is invisible." Ghanaian Proverb

In a way, fish and people live in completely opposite environments. When we say something is invisible, we basically mean that you can’t see it in the air which is how we survive and what we live in. We need to learn to stop looking at air as ‘nothing’ we should think outside the box and not take advantage of things that we think are always going to be there.

What if all the streets were rivers? What would be different?

When I think of streets as rivers, I think of Venice. We would all have garages that were full of water, to park our family boats. We would have to live on flat ground, unless we had special wooden planks on the sides, if you live on a hill like me. We would be a society without cars, and I think that would solve a lot of problems like exhaust going in the air. On the other hand, there would be a lot more pollution in the water, and I think that our oceans and water sources would be worse than they are right now. I also think that it would be really cool though, if we just all were sailors because that’s how we would travel around, it would be a completely different lifestyle.

Video of the Week for October 13th

Here is my video of the short film The Black Button. It is another video showing human behaviour in certain situations. Although this is more of a video about how people are greedy and selfish, it’s interesting to watch and think about what you would do if you were in that situation.

Quote/Proverb for October 12th

"The only thing in life achieved without effort is failure." - Author Unknown

If you don’t try, you can’t ever succeed. You miss 100% of the shots that you don’t take… without effort nothing can be achieved. And there will be failure, but you have to keep on trying to get what you want.

Journal Entry 3

I don’t have any type of book that I prefer over anything else, but I don’t like ones with happy endings. Novels and stories are just better in general when they have tragic endings I find the story much more appealing. As I’ve mentioned in other posts, my favourite book is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and that is probably the best place that I’ve ever been taken to. It’s based in a small German town during the bombings of World War II. I’ve never been so into a book before.

Video 2

This is a drawing video that is very interesting to watch. You can see the difference in face shapes and the way you draw different ages, by watching Mark Crilley who is a very talented artist.

Quote #4

I think that this quote is very true. Whether we do it subconsciously or not we put up walls and if somebody knocks them down, it shows that they care about us and are willing to do a little work.

Journal Entry 2

When I am up at night, and can’t go to sleep - it’s because I had a nap that day, or had some drink with caffeine in it like tea or coffee or a monster. Also if I have something on my mind that day, and I can’t stop thinking about it, it get’s really hard for me to fall asleep. There are certain things I like to have done before I can fall asleep. I like having my door completely closed, with the hall light off, and I need it to be basically pitch black in my room. If my blinds are slightly open, and the streetlight is shining in, then it goes right in my eyes! Another pet peeve that I have is when my bed is made. I can’t sleep if my bed is made – at all. Usually before I go to bed I pull the blankets out of the bottom of the bed and wrap them around and sleep, I always need the blankets in a lump I can hug onto instead of having them lay on top of me. I am a very picky sleeper! (But only in my own bed)
