This visual quote shows that people seem to think that the path to success is extremely easy. When really, you have to work hard to succeed and you will go through a lot of things to get there (which is represented by the twisting paths of the second arrow). Do be successful you have to learn to solve problems and keep trying, even if you’ve veered of the straight path.

The Book Thief is my favourite book, it’s the kind of book that as soon as you finish it you want to read it all over again. This is one of the many beautiful quotes that are in Mark Zusak’s writing. It’s talking about how much power words can have, and how important they are. You can use words in so many different ways. In this particular quote he’s saying that yes, he’s hated and loved words, but in this book he hopes that he’s made it right. I think that being ‘right’ he could mean that he tells a good story, teaches a lesson, creates amazing writing, and most importantly made the words mean something to you.

Journal Entry 1

Promt 21. Describe your room at home in detail. What are you proudest of and why?

My room at home is sandwitched in between my brother’s room, and my parent’s room. I guess it’s pretty big – which would be nice – except for the fact that it’s big because I have to share it with my little sister. There is still bright blue, red and yellow Pooh Bear wallpaper covering all the walls, no matter how many times I try to cover it up. Before I went through all of my things and took down the collage of posters and art, my room used to be very cluttered looking. And it really was. I had lots of useless stuff, and I still do because my mom is the type of person that likes to store things for later and keep too many things that have apparent ‘sentimental value’. I’m going to try to get my room painted a nice maroon colour and hopefully get some decorations to make it look less plain.

This quote means that if you're doing something that makes you happy - even if other people disapprove or don't understand why you like it. As long as it's important to you, and you're happy doing it, then that's all that matters.
